Janice was raised in Canada to believe that the Bible was literal and inerrant. She was a devout homeschooling mother and wife until her late 30s, when a series of tragedies prompted her to explore other religions and what she had denied herself. Since 2015, Janice has been in private practice, now as a Master Practitioner Clinical Counsellor and religious trauma recovery coach.
In addition to her affiliate work with Journey Free, Janice hosts the Divorcing Religion Podcast and the Sex & Power Podcast. She is the founder of both CORT: The Conference on Religious Trauma and the Shameless Sexuality: Life After Purity Culture conference. In 2024, she published Divorcing Religion: A Memoir and Survival Handbook.
